Required exams for CCNP (640 exams do not count anymore?)

Hi all,

I was under the impression that you could get CCNP when you had done older exams. I have scheduled the old exam for switching (640-604) for october 6th but I am wondering if it is any use still.

On the Cisco site I see that the required exams are only 642-xxx exams and when I look further on the website there is a faq wich says:

Question:
Will I be able to mix and match exams for the CCNP certification?

Answer
Yes, those who have passed earlier versions of the CCNP exams (such as 640-605 or 640-505) are able to apply those exams towards the CCNP certification requirements.

If you have passed these exams and you intend to use them towards the CCNP program, please complete all requirements on or before September 1, 2003 to obtain your CCNP certification.

From the above I understand that even if I do my 640-604 exam it will not help me get my CCNP since I should have done the ccnp exam before the 1st of september.

I would really like to get a response on this quick cause I could better use the time to learn for the bcran exam for wich I have a course this week and wich I have to pass before the 31st of october.

hi i passed the BSCI 640-901 Last friday, according my cisco tracking site it is still valid towards CCNP.

the last day to sign up for the 640-xxx was sept 7th. any1 thats able to take the 640 tests are credited towards the ccnp

even thou it says that i think it is still valid if u are able to take the old tests.

thanks for the quick responses. I guess it is still valid. It just is not showing anymore in the list sicne you can not sign up for an exam anymore.

And besides.. I would not think that they let you do an exam for something that you can not use anymore... so wish me luck on the 6th of october... ;-)
