When employees start outlook 2002 they always get the message “requesting data from exchange server…..” any ideas on how to remedy this problem?

Do they start on Outlook Today ?

The only time we get that particular message here is when network traffic is heavy. Early in the morning when not everyone is at work you don't hardly ever get the message, but further into the day it appears frequently.

This message appears when outlook is unable to immediatly connect to exchange. It would appear that your high traffic is the cause, it might be time to think about upgrading.

check for this Microsoft Article no 293650. You just need to increase the timeout value or disable this message by editing the registry.

Also, check your licensing on the Exchange server. If you set ip up, make sure you are not going over the # of licenses you filled it. The solution is out there. [morning]

I have finally found a solution to this problem on our system.

In the properties of my mailbox store, in Exchange 2000, "full text indexing" was scheduled to run every hour. This was running for 35 minutes of every hour during which the "requesting data" message constantly appeared on client machines throughout the office. I have changed the indexing to run once every morning at 5am and since then I have not seen one instance of the dreaded "requesting data message".
