This is my 1st time using this service.

I have browsed through the forum and had discovered individuals with similar requests of proceedure. I created a table having information of our intake clients. Fields include personal and demographic information and other necessary fields, ie Admit Date, Time, Houselocation, etc. (I was hired as a tech for setting up a new network at our detox center and was asked to write a program. Ha! Ha!). The primary form is pretty good. What I need to be able to do is this. I need to lookup any client by SSN or Last Name or First Name and then display the lastest information of this client (if found) in the table. This is what the employees are used to using FoxPro whis is not Y2K compliant. I am not a programmer, yet I feel that I've given it a good shot. When all else fails, call professionals for help!

Hi, Ibanez2,
1st, I am not the most experienced Access user on the block, so check my answer against any others you receive!
Heres' how I would start: In design view, make sure the "wizard" icon is on (it's a wand with stars falling away from it.)
Select the combo box control from the toolbox. Draw the combo box in the area of the form where you want it. (Or, you can put it in the form header if there is one, or you can open a form header.)
Tell the wizard what field(s) you want to use to look up the record(s): SSN, Last name, first name(are you sure?), etc. Let's see, either before or after this, the wizard will ask you what to do with the value you enter: choose to get the record based on the value entered. Don't store it in a field, or keep it for later use. If you try this, and have more questions, let me know.

Me again. When I reviewed the answer I posted, I saw that I neglected to say that you have to tell the wizard where to get the field to use to search for the record; in your case, select the name of the table or query you're using, e.g. "myTableNameforClients".

I appreciate your input. I'm currently using a similar proceedure for our client lookup now. After the client is found, what I'm trying to accomplish is that I'm able to select the record and view the record in form mode.

Hi, again.
It sounds like you find the records and then you need to display the information for the record in your form. I have to mess around with "requery" and "refresh". In the property sheet for your combo box (or other control) in the On Click event enter Me.Requery. I saw a note in another thread that it should be first, Me.Requery, and then, Me.Refresh.
The secret is to go back and re-query the underlying table or query on which your form is based, to get the right data, after you've found the record.
Hope this helps. s-) Gus Brunston
