We're having a problem with reports not launching when they are attached to an e-mail in Outlook XP and 2003. ReportSmith will launch when the attachment is clicked on, but the it doesn't open the actual report.

I saw exactly the same issue in thread131-904064 but didn't see a resolution. I've checked the .ini files and the paths all appear to be correct.

This is for ReportSmith 3.12 on Windows XP Professional. Any suggestions or help are appreciated.

I had this same issue and was able to solve it. Here's what I did....

Go into your Control Panel and select Folder Options.

Click on the File Types tab and navigate to RPT and highlight.

Click the Advanced button and then click New.

Enter the Folling....

Action: Run
Application used to perform action: "C:\Program Files\Srs\Rptsmith\rptsmith.exe"

After looking at the problem closer, I think I have figured it out. Apparently the problem is related to a registry entry for Microsoft Outlook. For some reason, ReportSmith could not access the secure temporary folder that Outlook XP and 2003 uses to store attachments.

I created a new temp folder (C:\Temp) and made sure security on that folder was set so that ReportSmith could access it. Then, I changed the following registry key to point to the new folder:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder
(10.0 indicates Office XP, 11.0 for 2003, etc.)

By default, the value of OutlookSecureTempFolder is something like the following:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK93\

I just changed it to point to the new folder (C:\Temp) and it opened the attachments without any problems.
