Hi Guys,
I am trying to get a reporting tool for printing reports. The reporting tool needs to have a good Designer interface as well as be able to get data from a disconnected recordset. Output to PDF would be an advantage.

If anyone knows of such a tool please could you respond to this post.
Thanks

Crystal 8.5 is key......your a MCSD and don't know this??

Crystal 8.5 may be the key, but it is way too expensive for the company that I am working for. With the rand dollar exchange rate Crystal sells for about R30000 and then we still need to buy user licences.
Thanks but no thanks, Crystal just will not do.
Any other ideas?

$30,000....thats not even close to how much it costs. You can buy one copy and then just distribute your reports using the viewer in VB. Also there is also a version of crystal included with Visusla Studio...you just have to search the CD's really good. Again a MCSD doesn't know this??

That's about $3000. Still a bit dear. Most controls cost roughly the same, so if you can't afford Crystal, you aren't going to be able to afford any of the others either. Componentsource sell for $400 which is about 4000 Rand. Peter Meachem

Chadt: you seem to be getting hung up on my MCSD status. The point is that I know all about Crystal reports, including the version that is on the CD. The version of CR on the VB 6 CD is v4.6 which does not allow data to be passed to the report from a disconnected recordset. The reason I need a disconnected recordset is because we are prevented by policy from accessing the database directly except through our business layer.
You will also notice that I did not say dollars, but rands in the price I mentioned (which was also just a guess as my boss told me not to waste my time even looking at crystal because he will not pay their prices).

Peter: Thanks for your post, I will take a look at Component Source anyway, because maybe I can bring my boss up to that sort of price. I found the perfect Solution in Active Reports by But again the price is $500.
