Hi all,

Just to give you a quick feddback on our estimation on ReportNet.

We have tried to migrate reports from Impromptu to ReportNet. It was just a nightmare:
- Performance
- Functionnalities that do not exist anymore
- Bugs
- ...

Actually you have to rebuild both reports and catalog.

It is a new tool and the effort of migration is not fewer than migrating to a tool from another editor (whose products may not be so young and bugged).

We have lost time and money on that.

I am not saying this is the case for everybody, just wanted to give our own feedbacks.

Graham.

Thanks for the heads-up!
I was wondering whether here at our company we should move to reportnet. What's the big diff with Upfront? Anyone wishes to share his or her points on the pro's and con's?

I would suggest that the decision to convert right now depends on the size of your integration. If you already have 1000 IWR reports, wait for the migration tools to get better. If you have a small IWR integration, switch to ReportNet now and start reaping the benefits.

My company has something like 13000 Cognos objects (not including Upfront newsboxes) on the web. We will not be moving to ReportNet any time soon. But I have a friend who works for a company with only about 200 Cognos Web objects. They are moving to ReportNet and love it.

Comparing Impromptu to ReportNet is like comparing a Ferrari to a LADA. There is a new migration utility that will allow you to not have to recreate your catalogs and reports, but this being said, there is still some difference in functionality and not all reports may convert. Keep in mind that you are dealing with a client architecture in Impromptu and a TOTAL web based technology in ReportNet which is bound by some limitations of the web.

Your feedback is valid, it is your opinion after all, but just wanted to dispel any myths of anybody reading this.

ReportNet IS the reporting future as you will see the other BI vendors try and match what Cognos has done. They however, will be years behind. :)

Flex13,
I'm assuming your are replying to my feedback.
I didn't suggest that the two are comparable. I only suggested that converting to ReportNet on a large scale is not the "Everything's wonderful in fantasyland" experience that Cognos has suggested in the past. Converting to ReportNet when you already have a large scale Cognos implementation will be a large scale pain in the *** (butt).
I'm also not suggesting that it might not be worth it for some companies.
I've seen ReportNet and it is a fantastic product. Hands down better than any other BI tool. I'm only trying to ensure that companies go into these situations with their eyes open.
