Hi, I am trying to install Reporting Services on an SQL2000 server running on Windows 2000 Server all fully patched. I am getting the following error towards the end of the install:

Setting File Security - 1603

Failure modifying security permissions on file

c:\Winnt\microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\temporary asp.net files for user
registry:HKLM\software\my_secure_app\identity\aspnet_setreg,username.

Everyone has access to that path. I have not substituted the word username for a real username! It actually just says 'username'. I have looked at this registry key and it is in the registry exactly as shown here.

Has anybody experienced this before?

Thanks!

Adrian.

What portion of RS are you trying to install on your machine? The Manager, the Designer or the actual databases?

Hi, I'm installing all the Server Components and the Admin Tools under Client Components.

If you're installing all components, it might be an issue with what you don't have installed. For instance, you'll need IIS installed on your Server BEFORE you install RS because the Report Manager component uses IIS for hosting the reports.

If you have IIS installed, make sure the account you're using to install the RM has permissions on the default website.

Hi, IIS is installed and working correctly. One possible important thing is that this server is a domain controller in a Windows 2000 active directory. I know this can be a pain when installing reporting services!

I have also made sure that the IWAM account for this server has the Impersonate privilege set as per ....

I am installing reporting services logged in as the domain administrator which has access to the default website.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Adrian.
