I am trying to get my SRS 2000 reports to hook up with my ASP.NET 2.0 reportViewer.

Currently I have a page that has a reportViewer Control. The control is pointing to a remote SQL server 2005 database . I can view my reports just fine on the server so I know that they work. When ever I run the page I get the fallowing error.

"The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found."

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have the 2.0 .Net framework installed on the machine you're trying to view from?

Also, you might have to upgrade the 2000 reports to SRS 2005 to view them on SRS 2005 report Server.

Yes the 2.0 framework is installed on the server. I guess a big question is can you uses the reportViewer tool to view 2000 reports or only 2005? And if you can't then how do you view your report?

That's a good question, to which I don't currently have an answer. I'll see if I can find one. In the meantime, you might want to google any errors you're getting and check the SRS log for more details.

However, my question is, if you don't want to upgrade your reports, why did you install SRS 2005?

Is this on a production machine or a development machine? Have you installed this on all your environments (Dev, Test, QC, etc.) and are only having problems on one? Or did you only install it on one machine?

The company that I work for just upgraded to sql server 2005. In doing so I expected them to also upgrade their reporting services so I rolled out a report using 2005 RSS. I turns out that after I finished I went to deploy my reports and found that they are still running RSS 2000 and don't plan to upgrad anytime soon. So I had to start all over.

So there is where my problem lies. I know the reportViewer works with RSS 2005 and I figured that it would work the same for RSS 2000.

Today I talked with a co worker and he said that he don't know of anyway to embed the RSS 2000. The only way is to point directly to the report.

For example
So that is what I'm going to do unless someone knows of a better way.

Well, the way we're doing it is the developers are exposing the object model within our in-house client program, sending the report via a binary stream into a file and rendering it on the client machines in .pdf format.

I can't give you any more details than that because I'm not the one doing the coding. But it has to do with objects like SetReportDefinition, GetReportDefinition, etc. I think the SRS 2000 object model diagram might be floating around on the internet somewhere.
