Reporting in Sharepoint

Hello.

I would like to be able to create simple reports, e.g. in the past month how many project proposals have been submitted, approved and rejected. I have a custom made list where which lists all the proposals.

Is it possible, with out of the box Sharepoint application to create a monthly report that will simply contain the counts of how proposal were submitted, approved and rejected.

I thought of doing it by creating a new list with column values calculated from my project proposals list, but I can't seem to be able to do it. Is it possible to implement it, or do I require purchasing some third party application.

You can write a Web part that can aggregate this information, or you can dig into the Sharepoint SQL Server data and write SPs to tease out the information.

If you use SQL 200, I would just use SQl Reporting Services since creating reports it is really easy with this tool. Not only that, you could schedulle reports to be auto-generated and emailed to people or stored in a web server. Look at the following Demo for more information:
