I'm a new user of Symposium and find that the reporting format is very limited specially when we need to combine other activity with the phone stats. Has any one exported the detailed data from symposium and created thier own reporting package using excel or access, if so what are the does and don't?

The group that I work in has limited experience with crystal report and our end users wanted to create a report that could be drilled down by the call taker. We have created other sales reports using Access and wanted to do the same thing with the phone stats.

We have good experience with Database Queries to Symposium server using EXCEL. It can give you reports in excel format. Gives analyses about Agents activities, Skillsets, Applications, CDNs stats, call by call stats etc. In fact our reporting people don´t use anythink else.

SashaChris, the release we are using is 4.2 The specifics specs are "Server Build 4.00 (Build 04.01.07) Rev 5.
Can you also please advise how you do these links.

You need to have an ODBC link (normally installed if you install the client).
In Excel you should press Data/Get External Data/New Database Query and click e.g. on the ICCM_PREVIEW_DSN*. You're being prompted to fill in a correct user ID and password. Database = blue, Servername = ICCM_Preview.
If you want to edit other SCCS servers, you need to update the local SQL.ini like this:
[ICCM_123]
query=NLWNSCK,xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,5000
(where the x-es are the IP address of the server and ICCM_123 is the name for this server)
Then you need to create a new ODBC link:
In W2k/XP: Go to Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/Datasources (ODBC).
In the worksheet User_DSN click Add.
Select the Sybase ASE ODBC Driver and click Finish.
Insert the Datasource Name (E.G. ICCM_123)
Insert the Database_Name.
Click on Test Connection and you are prompted for the User_ID and password. If you get Connection established!, all is OK.

Sorry for such a long delay in replying. If here is already perfect instruction from supernn I can just add one of our experience: with respect to number of SCCS Clients limitation we sometimes install only Sybase Open Client on Reporters PC ( from Client installation CD).

Please remember that if you are using a Novell Netware environment it is sugested to install the Sybase Open Client fully, otherwise you are missing some drivers.

Did any one get this to work. I looked in Excel as above but could not find the ICCM_PREVIEW_DSN* Is it somethin I need to install- sorry but not a Data person just voice

Can you send me the full instructions we use XP machines with SCC4.2

Wayne67,
Try this procedure:

1. Install ODBC and Sybase open Client ( are installed automatically during SCCS Client installation)
2. Configure a Sybase server entry
- run dsedit … ServerObject . . Add ..Server Name …
- Server adress . . TCP = CLAN,5000 i.e. 172.35.159.30,5000
- ping server . . OK
3. Define the DNS
- run odbcad32.exe . . system DSN . Blue . . Add Sybase ASE ODBCDriver . . Finish
- Data Source Name, Data Server Name the same like in 2.
- Test connect . . . Login ID & Password for SympClient . . . OK

Then you can run Excel,Date,GetExternalData,New database Query . . . .

All the best

I use Access and a lot of my reports are done using pivot table in Access, which open in Excel. To Run the reports, all I have to do is open the pivot table in Excel (through Access) and refresh the data. Takes seconds.
