Hi guys I am new to access2000 and I have a report based on a query The report looks like this:

studentID firstname lastname major
01 xxxxxxxx xxxxxxx science
02 xxxxxxxx xxxxxx business
03 xxxxxxx xxxxxx compcsience
04 xxxxxxx xxxxxxx undecided
05 xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx science
06 xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx business
07 xxxxxxxx xxxxxxx undecided
ect ect
I need to group all students by major and also need to have a total of students for each major.
Well I hope I didn't over do it.Ill appreciate anybody helping me.

My info is coming from 97 but I think it will still apply. Under "view" click on "grouping and sorting". Use the drop-down box to add major and make sure you are grouping by it and not just sorting. Also be sure to set to "group footer" to yes.
On the report, add an unbound text box to the footer. type in "=Count(group)" or "=Count(StudentID)". This should give you a total at the end of each group.

If you use the report wizard and select the grouping options it will do all this for you. You will need to go in to remove some of the extra funny bits of text it puts in, but I always find the report wizard a much quicker way of doing a report than doing it manually. Peter Meachem
