Are you guys aware of any way to find out how many Emails have been sent to a specific domain from our Exch 5.5 server? I know there are 3rd party tools, but we don't really want to pay for an entire tool just to do these reports.

Thanks.

It's not too friendly, but if you do message tracking and just specify the domain as the recipient, this will give you an output (for that connector at least)

Thanks for the reply, NetIntruder.

I've got message tracking turned on for the IMS, but that just dumps daily logs on everything that crosses it. Unless I parse through each log field searching for the domain name, I can't really get anything useful out of them.
Even then, this would have to be done on every log file, to compile monthly reports would be arduous, to say the least.

By 'specify the domain as the recipient' do you mean to search the tracking logs for that domain, or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks.

yeah, search the tracking logs for the domain - when you go to track a mail message, say @microsoft.com instead of billgates@microsoft.com - that will grab everything from microsoft.com.

I agree - this method absolutely sukcs and i would highly recommend using a 3rd party product (I use MessageStats which is decent).

Ok, thanks NetIntruder.

Any idea for a ballpark figure of how much MessageStats runs for a single Exch5.5 server with 1500 users?

Not too cheap. If I recall correctly, it was something like $10/mailbox, but it is a terrific reporting tool.

Let me check with a few others here to see if they have a better idea on reporting what you are looking to do.

Thanks for the info NetIntruder, but I think it's a bit too expensive for what we're looking for.

Best comment i've got so far was use crystal reports.
