I have exported a report from Access 2000 to excel and the order of the fields changes?

I have checked the order of the fields in the report, the query, and the table - none of them suggest the order of the fields in the excel export file.

I have also checked to see if there is any variable in the report design that allows you to state the order of the fields but cannot find anything.

Any ideas?

No, the output is not alphabetic, it is not related to the order of the fields in the report, query or table. I have even tried recreating the report to make sure it was not exporting them in the order the fields were created. I have also checked that the conditions in the query don't effect it - no relationship there either?

Just can't figure it out - there is no setting on the form that enables you to specify what order the data is exported.

This gets even more wierd! I have rebuilt, from scratch, exact copies of the query and report, creating the fields in the order I want them in the report and the exported xls file. The output from the new report is in a different order than the original report!! Both sets of query & report are based on the same tables, same critria and same sorting - just don't get it?

There must be a setting where you can specify the order in which the data is exported.

I have solved it!!

The order in which the fields are exported IS dependent on the order in which the fields have been created OR edited in the Report. I have simply edited the Report by selecting each field one by one and moving them slightly. I did this in the order in which I wanted the fields to be exported. I then saved the report, reran it, exported the data to excel and it is in the correct order.

Hope this is useful to someone, as it appears to be a strange one! Access should really have a property setting in Reports that allows you to order the fields to be exported.

Scott95823,

I'm giving you a star for this. It's always helpful if you come back with a solution to a thread you have posted yourself. Helps others who might be having the same problem. :)
