I'm using Report Studio 8.3. I have a report that validates fine and I get output with html but when I select any Excel or PDF option I get the following error:

RQP-DEF-0177 An error occurred while performing operation 'sqlOpenResult' status='-28'. UDA-SQL-0114 The cursor supplied to the operation "sqlOpenResult" is inactive. UDA-SQL-0236 Left table attribute is not a key.

Any ideas? I've had the 'sqlOpenResult' status='-28' error before but in those cases I never received any type of output.

thanks,
-Eric

Our Admin figured it out. I had a join between two queries. In one of the queries, I had a calculated field on top of the list in the Query explorer window and the item I joined with below that. She flipped them and it worked. We're not quite sure why it worked. I don't see how that and Excel/PDF output problems would be related. I would've thought if that was an issue, it would be an issue for all output types.

Anyone have an idea why this works this way.

thanks,
-Eric

Just a very dim clue :)

In HTML Cognos can process a report step by step, which includes query generation and processing. PDF and Excel have no such options, output is only generated after all processing is done.
We have seen reports crashing cause SQL server could not cope with the number of tables involved (upper limit around 150), but usually only with non-HTML versions.

Ties,

Could this also lead to having different results when running the same report on pdf and Excel?

This is the situation i am in, where the excel report is correct but pdf incorrect, despite being the same report!!

Very strange...
