A user is trying to generate a report but gets a Dr Watson at approx 60,000 rows. I've exported the SQL syntax and run it successfully against the database, so I'm assuming it's a Crystal issue. Any thoughts? Dr Watson excerpt follows:

Application exception occurred:
App: (pid=585)
When: 5/3/2001 @ 8:59:27.15
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

Access violation?
I go over 100K rows all of the time.

Just a guess, but I think it is running out of memory/temp space to build the result file, or it is trying to exceed it's alloted temp space? It runs fine if you change it to return less than 60K rows? Ken Hamady

I ran it successfully in increasingly large 'chunks' and yes, it seemed to hit a threshold & die. Am I right in thinking that Crystal may require a good up to 100MB locally to generate the report -- I just cleared a bunch of stuff from my hard drive (I only had a few megs free and perhaps the user experiencing the problem is likewise) & presto -- I ran the report again and it returned 65,000 rows successfully. Could this be it or just a coincidence and -- if it is the reason -- can you elaborate on local memory requirements?

Thanks a lot

Crystal has to store the entire results table in memory to manipulate it. If it runs out of memory it will try to swap to the hard drive for working space. It appears that you didn't have enough physical/virtual memory to manipulate the full results for a report this large. Ken Hamady
