I have a crosstab report for 37 hospitals and clinics. Sometimes when running stats on this report the process runs successfuly and other times it crashes. When it crashes it brings wierd characters/blocks instead of data. When I take the query of the report that brought wierd characters and run it on SQL manager the query comes back with no data. I'm running out of ideas to fix this problem. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Are you reporting against a 'life' database or against a datawarehouse? Could it be that one or more tables are rebuild at any moment?

Against a live database. It's a stats programme that is rebuilt monthly.

If it is rebuild on a monthly basis, then it is not 'live' in the sense that actual transactions/mutations can occur at random. Are you saying that with no mutations a query randomly returns no data/data?
Can you trace activity on the database itself. What database are you working with?

Ties Blom

We are using cache database. There's nothing wrong with the data. It's actually very weird because when I rerun the same exact report (refresh) I get 3 different results. The report should come back blank or with data but I get some funny characters and blocks. Sometimes it crashes impromptu, sometimes it comes back blank as well or with data (correct results). I took the sql query and I ran it on SQL manager with no problems and also when I change the report from a crosstab to a list report I don't incure problem. It's a numiric feild by the way. It's actually a count. I hope you got the idea.

Okay, not (at all) familiar with Impromptu (now that you mention it). Perhaps a Cognos 7 user would have a clue..
