This is my third thread...I have not got a single reply yet. I would really appreciate if someone can let me know if OCA certificate will help me in starting my career in database. I work as a software test engineer. I am very much interested in Database field.
Currently I feel that OCA might help me in entering this field. But I need a professional advice. Someone pls reply
Thanks

It depends on your work experience, if you worked with Oracle before, I would say yes, but if not then it's hard to get a junior DBA position with only the OCA or the OCP as well.

Hope this helps.

PNC.

I work as a Test Engineer. I had worked on Oracle when I took Database MGMT Class

Class room experience is not enough to get a job... At work, what database do you use?

Thank you very much for your response.

I test C++ and Visual Basic applications. Thus I dont work on any particular database. Usually it is GUI and functionality test.

How should I hunt for jobs in Database area? Do I stand any chance of getting a database job without any experience

Thank you

The best way to find out how big the job market for someone holding a certificate without directly related experience is search jobs in monster.com, dice.com, or local job website....

The chance for junior level DBA is very small. Even the junior level position need previous job experence.

Given the fact that advanced automation tools are more available from Oracle. The demmand for DBA will go down. Another reason is DBA is the most costly role in IT. A lot company is trying to outsource to somewhere else. Sticking with your existing skill sets and learning some database technology may be your best bet for long run ...

This is just my 2 cents.

Good luck!
