I have been using Notes for quite some time now (about 4 years). Working with a laptop, when I'm home, I like to work on a local replica of my databases and initiate a replication process at the end of my work night. I'm using R5 on a Windows NT workstation 4 SP5 system.

The last months have been quite frustrating since without any apparent reason, the replication process is taking for ever. To be more precise, any document from the server does get replicated at full speed. But, any local action I have taken seems to get stuck on my machine. Even a simple filing or deletion of a one document would require well over five minutes to get replicated. Even more strangely, while the process is taking place, there is no activity on the communication line and the CPU is idle. To top it off, many of my colleagues work in the same manner and are able to function without a glitch. Surprisingly, when I get to the office and replicate from there, everything falls into place as simply and fast as usual.

I really hope someone will be able to help me out cause this problem is really taking the pleasure off of working with Notes.

I have a couple of recommendations which you may have already implemented, but may be worthy of mention:

1. Index your local database's views. Lengthy replications are often the product of unindexed views. Invoke the database-referesh view indexes command by using the keystroke combination Ctrl-Shift-F9 from within the problematic database.

2. Contact your ISP and explain that you are experiencing very slow upload speeds from your local machine to your database server. Find out about optimizing your connection speeds and minimizing your upload lags.

3. Investigate all possibilities to isolate your data speed problems. Are your upload problems specific to replicating data via Notes? Have you attempted to upload other files or information via your ISP to your company's network? Have you attempted dialing into your office network by using your ISP from your home office?

There are tons of other possible reasons for your data upload slowdown which you've probably already considered. Good luck in resolving your issues. As a consultant who supports a remote labor force, I definitely sympathize.

Cheers,
