Hi there

I have a Win2k Adv server as PDC and a Win2k Server as BDC, when I create new users on the PDC, they are not replicated on the BDC.

If I Check the event view I recieve Event ID 1586, which if i check on MS Knowledge base, i see a resolution like so...

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, a connection object can be manually configured in Active Directory (AD) Sites and Services to replicate from the PDC FSMO role holder prior to transferring the FSMO role to a different Windows 2000 domain controller.

Also if I try to connect to the PDC from the BDC, I receive an error The RPC Server is not available.

Any one any ideas on what MS are talking about inm the resolution or indeed, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Rathcoffey

I had the same error.
When you installed the first controller of your AD you specified a DNS server to use. Both controllers of your AD must point to that specific DNS server since the DNS contains some AD specific stuff.

Have you checked that in DNS it is allowed to perform dynamic updates?
To check roll down the forward lookup zone, then click on to your dns server name, then right click and choose properties. In the general tab you see the Allow Dynamic Updates box this should be yes to allow AD to update the DNS. This setting also exists in the reverse lookup.
