Hi there,

Could anybody help me with replicating data, I need to replicate data from one server to another for backup purpose's. It is on a remote site where my "second- Backup" server will be. I have seen DFS but heard to many negative feed back, is there another way to use RFS in windows 2000?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you
Marius

File Replication Service can be used with DFS. Independently I don't know any other way. Indeed the system also is using FRS in replicating the content of the SYSVOL share.
The only way to use replication without DFS is putting your folders and files in the SYSVOL share...

Robocopy maybe? A very hady tool for replicating data

Thank you,

The SYSVOL was mentioned to me before, but if you have more than one DC all the data will be replicated to them as well. That is not what I want to happen. It is alot of data, a few GB's so I will not be able to go for that option.

I started a Robocopy session this morning to see how good it is and so far I am happy, I am replicating 1.2GB and it is taken 6 hours so far and hope not too much longer.

I am doing it over a VPN, so it will be slow. One good thought was to copy/write the data to CD and then copy it to the backup server, set the folder's and then write a batch file to use the correct folder strucsure and then the replication will be alot faster.

Thanks for your help, if any new ideas comes up please let me know.

Thank you
Marius
