I have an old HD with an old database I need to transfer to my new server. The old HD no longer boots (crashed).

I added old HD to new server and it comes up as drive E:

So, I have a database in e:\programs files\MS SQL\data

How do I bring that database to my newly installed server side and have it accessible through SQL Manager?

Thanks,

Jose Lerebours

Do you have backup tape that you can restore? You can only attach the database back if you detach it in the first place.

Hi Jose,

You need to attach your database from your new hard drive to SQL Server Management Studio (2005) or Enterprise Manager (2000).

If you right click the databases folder in SSMS, Attach and select the .mdf file of your database. Not sure of the option in 2000, not got it on this machine but sp_attach will work in either version, do a search in Books Online.

Cheers,
Leigh

Thank you guys ... Attaching the database did it!
