I hope someone can help me determine what I'm doing wrong. I had the hard drive go bad on one of our S8300-C LSPs. I found an identical hard dive in good condition, deleted all former partions and information, installed it onto the S8300, booted with an installation CD for CM 3.1.4... The server software loads with no problem, edjects the CD and appears to do a soft boot. I keep a steady ping to 192.11.13.6 and once I see successful pings, I launch the GUI wizard. When prompted for a logon, I use craft/craft01 and I get authentication failed. I've tried several variations of the craft password with no luck. The documention I have is unclear as to whether or not I'm supposed to be installing the license file first and in a different manner that using the GUI wizard. Can someone validate my process or let me know if I've missed a step, please?

The S8300B actually uses the hard drive to load CM, the S8300C and S8300D use the Compact Flash SSD to load the operating system, and only use the hard drive for "messaging" storage. Your CF is probably bad, not your hard drive.

Mitch, thank you for responding. I should have made mentioned that since the original 8300 wasn't responding, I installed the original hard drive on a spare 8300 board. When doing so and booting the gateway I could not get a ping and that's what lead me to believe the hard drive was corrupt. Upon further reading I found that in order to use an 8300 vC board, you must use CM version 4.x... I thought I had version 3.1.x.. loaded on the original hard drive and that's what I tried loading on the replacement drive. So to sum it up, I have the original hard drive that will not respond to either the original S8300 vC board or the spare S8300 vC board. However when using the replacement drive or the drive that was initially on the spare S8300, I get ping response and can launch the GUI. However no logon/passwords work. One more item to mention, the gateway is a spare, so. I know that if/when I get to the point where I can configure the 8300 and load the license and password files, they won't initially work with the gateway. My thinking is I can load and config everything on the bench, then take the 8300 on location and install it in the media gateway.

This is somewhat new territory form me and I'm not sure if I can do it this way. Again, any input is greatly appreciated.
