I inherited a compaq server that has w2k on it that is used as a file and print server. The server has 25gb hd with raid 5 configured; when I called compaq to replace a faulty drive I asked them how I could install larger hard drives. They told me that my 3000 server was reconfigured to accommodate these 25mb drives. How do I install new drive cages with 54gb hd? If anyone has done this before;how do you migrate the data/printer setup to the new hard drives? We use backup exec. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you're using a Smart Controller, replace the drives on at a time and allow the set to rebuild between each swap. Once all drives are replaced, you can go into the ACU allocate the new space - then use W2K disk tools to carve it up.

Thank you for responding to my cry for help. I have rebuilt this server last month and it was not to easy. I replaced the existing drive cage with the drive cage that the system origianally came with and then installed the 5 36.4gb drives. The difficult part was with restoring data.

36.4 GB drives in a Proliant 3000? Where do you get these? Would help me greatly!

You can purchase a replacement Ultra2/3 drive cage for the Proliant 3000,, this would then allow you to add even the new 72gb disks
