I have read the document for replacing the 3 battery packs in the bottom of the MCC.It looks like you need to shut off the battery charger first then replace the batteries. My question is do you need to power down the system or can i do this while the system is up and being used? Thanks

whitfism,
this can be done without powering down the cabinet. just unplug one of the batteries before shutting off the battery charger and then after replacing the batteries leave one of the batteries unplugged when you turn the power back on the charger, then plug in the last battery.

losfep,Thanks for the reply.Sounds like you have done this before.I went to replace the batteries and there was no battery charger. The slot at the bottom of the cabinet were the maint doc shows a battery charger was empty. With that being said,i have a power minor alarm.Test#5 fails with an error code of 8.The only batteries in the cabinet are 3 small battery packs that say Lucent on them. Are these the batteries i should replace and can i replace them while system is up as there is no charger to turn off. Thanks for any help.

just brain-storming here. i haven't seen a DC powered MCC cabinet in 10 years. would this be one seeing that it doesn't have a charger?

Is your system on a UPS and are there rectifiers in the bottom of the cabinet..?

The system is on a UPS,the only parts in the front bottom are the 3 small batteries that are stacked, and the main power switch for powering the system.I do see in an older post that if the system is on a UPS that these batteries are not needed. Is this true?Again thanks for the help.
