Replacing an SD card because of license issue 2

I was given the wrong IPO to install at a site. It used no licenses. It should have gone to a different site that had a license already applied to it. I needed to move the license from the 1 serial number to the other, and Avaya wants the other SD card back. What do I need to do to replace an SD card that doesn't need any licenses with another? How do I minimize their downtime? Thanks

Your Business Partner (or your distributor if you are a BP) can do a "dongle swap" where they move the license from one SD card to the other, and then you send back the original SD card to your distributor.

If you have no licenses to swap, then just back up the config of the system to your PC, install the new SD card in the system, erase/upgrade the system, and send back the config from your PC.

Also to save VM greetings and AA announcements go to embedded file management Dynamic / LVM and download files to your PC then swap card and upload to new card and do a reboot to load the greetings.

Considering that an upgrade takes 2 hours, can I upgrade the SD card in another system before taking it out? Is there a faster way to perform the upgrade?

oh you mean that silly thousand+ file thing during the upgrade? Yes, plug it into a card reader on your PC and do a recreate memory card. takes about 20 minutes. However, you do not _need_ to do this if they are on the same versions already...just take the existing card and backup your dynamic/lvm directories and copy of the config, and then put them on the other card (either vie a reader or the embedded file management).

You can also edit the file list document that Manager uses to upgrade/recreate as that can be used to remove all the languages for vm you don't need and any handset firmware you don't need, that cuts it down to a few hundred files and about 5 mins :)

I always start rhe ipo and my laptop.
I put in the card and it is done in ten minutes.
Do nothing else or it can take much much longer.

You could also go old school and use Manager as file server and select not to upload any files during upgrade, it will be done in a couple of mins as it used to :)

I prefer editing the file list.
The 54/56 phones are end of sale.
Al the other old files can be removed.
Also removing all EVM files for most countries can be deleted.
This will save a lot of time.

Thanks for the avalanche of knowledge, i'll play around with it on my demo kit. On an aside, is there any other memory in the IPO other than the SD card, or are all the system and config files stored only on the card?

It has it's own flash memory.
Test it by rebooting the IPO without the SD card.
It will boot and run but without licenses but the config is there.
