I recently replaced an old computer on my network with a new computer, and named it the same computer name as the old computer. I then tried to join it to the domain, and got a credential conflict, so I then deleted the old computer from active directory computers, and tried agian same results I get a credential conflict.

Any suggestions?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

Could you give us more details on how you removed it? Glen A. Johnson

Do a search in the entire active directory. I've found the same computer in different locations. Once you delete all, you should be fine. Glen A. Johnson

I cleared out all reference to the old name in active directory and tried agian still no luck. I logged on to the local machine as administrator changed to computer name to the old one, and logged out. I then proceeded to log back into the domain and the computer name is now the old one and it is on the domain with the old name. How is this possible?????

any answers are appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron Kolesar

If you have more than one DC make sure they're replicating. You might even have to delete the machine name out of DNS and WINS.
