Replaced MSR, getting noservice error

System: Aloha 6.5.27

I have a terminal that a tech came onsite to replace the MSR reader.

However he is getting an error when running diagnostics through RSM.


Fatal error OPOS_E_NOSERVICE reported while trying to open profile 'Msr'

My team and I are pretty stumped. Any help would be awesome.

Terminal type?
MSR make?
USB? Serial? other?

If it is not a built in MSR but USB attached you will need appropriate OPOS drivers and the MSR must be in HID mode

Many USB MSR's can be switched to 2 modes HID and Keyboard emulation. There is a different switch mode utility for IDT and Magtek and for others as well. On USB, HID is needed for OPOS + you need OPOS driver and CCO

If you open notepad and can see swiped info your MSR is in keyboard mode

You would need to use proper change mode utility to set it to HID mode for the installed OPOS driver to work (if it is compatible with replacement)

As a last resort if you can see swipes in notepad

Try setting "Keyboard" as the MSR type for that term in Aloha Mgr

If it is a Radiant terminal and MSR there are a slew of issues that can occur


Maybe it's time for me to post my USB Magtek OPOS saga

I wonder if we could lobby NCR/Radiant and others to build HID MSR support into their products (without OPOS) All newer internal MSR devices are USB. Internal and external USB MSR's are HID devices when switched from being keyboard emulators so if they built in Native support for HID any HID MSR would simply work. No Keyboard data exposure. No OPOS drivers.
