I've ran into this issue before.

I have had to replace the motherboard on a computer. It was a Dell computer and since we all know that buying a new motherboard from Dell is pretty expensive. I purchased a new motherboard locally. I also purchased a new case since the Dell case has some proprietory connectors for the Dell motherboard.

After installing the Mobo, powersupply, RAM, CD and Hard drive into the new case, the computer would finally start to boot. I choose Safe Mode so I can attempt to install the new Mobo drivers, and it seems to attempt to load windows but bombs out and restarts. I suspect it is bombing out trying to load the Video drivers from the old video card that is not the same as the new integrated Video. How can I install the new video drivers, actually all of the drivers, to get this system running.

I REALLY don't want to have to reinstall the OS if I can prevent it. In the past that is what I've done. I'm hoping someone has a solution so I don't have to do it again.

From my knowledge you will have to do a repair install, just you can get away with not formatting. Either way, not what you wanted but its about the only way I know how.

Thanks electronicsfreak.

I'm in the process of doing that right now. Not the worst situation. I can live with a repair. (At least I THINK I can.) I'll reply with the outcome.

Ok....

I did the Reinstall/Repair and it worked great. That is the ticket for the future. Thanks.

n/p, glad I could help

Ah , did not know about that one bagbigben, I added it to my archives. Thanks!! Will come in handy next time im working on someones computer. Never have that problem myself as I like formatting everything when I do a new build or switch things like that.

Anyway thanks for posting that, makes a great addition to my archive lol.

I made a FAQ on it, it is a bit clearer but essentially the same...
