Replace POS Station with MICROS WS5A 1

Hi all,

I'm wondering if we can replace two old POS Stations with Win32 Call Client for MICROS POS 3700 with two new WS5A Stations.
Did we need new Licence Keys from MICROS? Or can we just Replace the old stations with the new onces and start the windows call client?

Did we need some other stuff for the call client installation on a MICROS WS5A system? Would be nice if somebody can help me.

You can change them. You will need to make a change in POSCONFIG, DEVICES, NETWORK NODE and set the replacement terminals to workstation 4's. You will need to run CAL on the new terminals. You may need to make some com port changes for printers etc.

thanks for the informations I was thinking that we don't need a new licence. We ware on Res. 4 Version 4.8 Build 4.8.4.2841
Here in Europa the MICROS Support tells us we should not upgrade to Version 5 they have a lot of problems especial with Fidelio and MICROS.

Only Reason to upgrade will be that we cann use the Windows Call clients with our Windows 7 / 8 user workstations.
Version 4 works just with Windowx XP but not with Windows 7 or 8.

Your workstation 5's will work on RES 4.8 You already have the client licences so wont need new ones.
 
Sounds good because the quote from MICROS Europe was we have to buy two new Licences for arround 2'000 USD for two WS5A Clients and 2'400 USD for the installation / replacement I was thing this guys are joking me. I payed already for the CAL licences and we also don't need a new configuration just a replacement.

The printers are network printer TM-T88IV with RJ45 Interface and I don't think we have to change something there.
How about the prices in the United States for WS5A stations I got a quote from MICROS for 3'600 USD per station and additional 160 USD for the stand.

Ok the new WS5A Stations are here and I can start the MICROS CAL client als also I can see our Server BUT on the next Screen how the availaible workstations are listed I can't see any availaible workstation.
Are there any tipps for this scenario?

Try changing the network node type from "Workstation" to "Workstation4.
 
But I have 4 workstations WS5 already up and running this ones should show up in the list. I also already changed the network node type from workstation to workstation4.
Any other Ideas I think is tricky that the server shows up but not one of the workstations.

Change the workstation type for the new workstations to Workstation4
In the if you have an "update host file" button in Network Nodes, click it
Open the Micros control panel, select Restaurant and then click the Reload DB button.

If you still don't get a list of workstations your MDSHosts file may not be updating
Open Windows Explorer and go to \Micros\Common\Etc
Rename MDSHosts.xml to MDSHosts.xml.old
Click the Reload DB button on the control panel again and make sure a new MDSHosts.xml file is generated
Try CAL again

Ok I'm done with the System and I also have chosen the same configuration as on the WS5 systems.

But on the Screen with the Workstations there is no Option to Select a Produkt? And the CF directory is empty.

Any suggestions?

OK on our Server there is no WS5A directory under D:\MICROS\Res\CAL can I copy just the WS5A directory from one to the other server? Or did I need future assistent :)

According to Micros, the WS5A hotfix for 4.x should only apply to versions 4.7 and below...? Oddness.

In any case, you need a file called RES4_WS5A_MR1.exe to copy the files from the WS4 to the WS5A directory and update all relevant linkages. Let me see if I can find a place to host this...

 
Thanks for the update we are atm on version 4.7.1.2284 did we need some other updates befor we can run the patch?

First of all I Shut down the MICROS Server and afterwards I run the Patch.
Is this all what we have to do for the update?

And I got some Error with one unit if Windows CE gets Loadet. If I set on bios that I would make a factory reset Windows CE I can see the screen please wait.... but nothing else happen for 1 hour or so normaly the system ask me for the reset password. Is there some workaround for that kind of problem on a WS5A.

Dear DJense999,

thanks for your help and also the files. I could make the update on the MICROS Server and will test tomorrow if it works but it should work now.
For VNC I just made a copy from the WS5 directory because in all call folders are the same files I hope this works as well for the installation or did I need a special script?

WS5A goes to MICROS Tech Support because I can't get the BIOS Factory Reset working so they can check whats wrong.

Hi pmegan,

everything works fine after the update :) If you are interessted in WS5A for your business let me know I can give you some address or maybee some people from this forum sell some "used" WS5A systems. If you buy them new they cost 2'600 USD or more and the used ones with new displays 1'050 USD.

We replaced here in Switzerland 3 old Win32 XP clients with WS5A and are happy with it.
