I have this image

logos2.gif

that I need to put onto a coloured background (hex 336699), I tried the hue/saturation and colorize method but couldn`t use the sliders to make an exact match, so tried the replace color function but it will not allow me to change the white for the colored background, only a grey background?!?!

Am I doing something wrong? I want it all colorized to that value but can only do it to greyscLES. I`m using CS.

I assume you want to replace the white background everywhere.

You might Select All/Copy and then open a new doc. The size of the new doc will match what's on the clipboard. On the new document window select transparent background and the proper color mode. Then paste.

With the new doc open make your color, making sure the fill box on the toolbar is foremost. It will change to your color. Use the magic wand and click on the white. Go to Select menu/similar. I fyou don't follow the previous step, non-contiguous white areas will not get selected. Go to Edit menu/Fill. All white areas will now be filled with the new color.

I would cut out the color ones, and paste them on a new layer, and then change the rest to multiply, it will giet you exactly what you want!

I went with yoderman's suggestion, it gave me exactly what I needed. I will have to remember that multiply feature!

Yoderman I'm new to Photoshop and have the same problem as Derwent.

This is a photo and I can't replace white with a color, only greys:
When you say "I would cut out the color ones", what are you referring to?

I'd very much appreciate if you could try changing the white color on this photo and let me know how you did it.

I've spent ages trying to sort this small problem out.

Thanks

Andrew

Problem solved.

All you have to do is go to Select then Color Range. Choose white, then OK.
Then go to Edit and Cut. This cuts all white from the photo.
Then add a color background of your choice.
