I have win98 nad when installing my soundcard, Sb Live!1024, with the cd that follows it halts at 97%. Underneath the procces "thingy" it says "updating files". And then this little window in the corner of my screen pops up and says that I need for example: Base5.cab that is on my second edition cd. And I do have the second edition cd. But when I find the file it wants it asks for a new one and some of theese files can´t be found in the windows catalog win98se-cd or the sb-live cd.

I hope I´ve made this post a little clearer now.

When little window pops up and asks for various files, just check where its looking for them. Windows is very good at losing its 'source' when installing drivers (so for example it might be looking for win98 files on drive A: (or wrong drive letter for CD) or in location of original sound card driver files and vice versa. So for each file it asks for - check the location its looking in, and change it if necessary to the correct one - you should then see file appear in box.

Hope this helps.

I´ve already tried to search my whole HD, CD-drive for each and every one of these files and some do actually appear but some few don´t

Make a note of required files, and download em from the net, I have a similar prob wiv Win 98 SE when installing Network, it is very hard to install and often I have to download additional .dll's simply because they are not there, I have done this in the past without any apparent problems.

Just type in a file in Google and normally you can find links to download it
