Repeatedly prompts to reboot [loop; driver; USB; new Hardware; PnP]

I'm installing Win2000p. All Updates are just done by internet.

But Every time I boot a message appears:


"Windows 2000 has finished installing new devices. You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect.

Do you want to restart your computer now?"

I've tried to analyze ntbtlog.txt but it doesent seem to be helpful.

How can I detect which device is meant?

hmmmm, that could be almost anything...

say no... go to the Device Manager, look for anything that is odd (yellow exclamation Mark or Red X)...

Look at the GFX card...

More info of your system might be helpful...

I do not use a fiber channel.
Looking at %WINDIR%\Setupapi.log seems to be a good hint
Also the installation of the Patch at microsoft...kbid =822563

Hi there,

basically what I meant was that the GFX card might not be installing correctly and thus causing the hick-up...

how old is the system, BIOS, Battery in use, cards installed, etc. would/could be helpful in pinpointing the problem area...

there is a possibility that certain BIOS settings (ACPI and PLUG-N-PLAY OS) could be the culprit... on the Plug-n-Play OS installed should be NO (even though W2k does plug and play (Microsoft even suggests this setting for any of their present OS's))...

Do check up on what Tek-Tippy suggested, I could be wrong...

As I do not know every Hotfix MS puts out, it could be one of them causing the hickup...

It may be USB related, as is stated in your Title post subject...
Have you disconnected all USB devices prior to applying the Service Pack?

Review that Volume.inf file found in your Inf folder for more clues..

I have heard of more than one conflicts concerning the USB updates, and it may even have to do with your ASPI layer drivers(basically USB is seen as an SCSI device)...and evn may be caused by installing the software that came with your Optical devices....

to help quickly go through the lists,
click through to the fixes, and use the "Find(on this page)" tool found on the Edit menu in IE, to search for all "USB" in the lists.....there are a ton of them..see if any apply , and look for clues, possibly BrandName specific like Pioneer

also, even when XP first came out, the USB 2.0 interface drivers were NOT ready..so may have alot to do with upgrading the whole USB core (Win2K SP4), to new compliances

Win2K SP4 fixes: I've already SP4 installed so they could not be the cause.

Look at the date of DriverVer --1999 is old, even though 5.00.2183.1 implies 2K OS..
Don't know 2k well, but I'll bet a google of the
ClassGuid={71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} and
AddInterface={53F5630D-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B}
turn up some more clues...
