I have a book with chapter sections. Each section is set for different first page header and footer, so I can have nothing in the first page header of each chapter. If I print, the document repaginates and takes off the setting for different header on first page, and the header re-appears. Then I have to re-set it again. Any way to prevent this?
Thanks

Methinks you are not using real Sections, that is, using actual Section Breaks - as Word understands sections. Repagination will not do this with proper use of Section breaks.

I aree with Gerry too. You need to change the settings under File, Page Setup, Layout Tab enabling the Different First Page setting.

At the end of each chapter, use Insert, Section Break Next ODD page.

With those settings, when you look at Headers and Footers dialog, you will see that each section has H&Fs for the first page, and H&Fs for the subsequent pages. ANd each new cha[ter will start on the right face as is convention.

TIP: if the only item that changes in the H&Fs between sections is the Chapter Title, then you do not need to clear the 'Same as Previous' setting either. If you use Chapter Title style for your chapter tiltes, you can then use the StyleRef field in the Header. Then when the section changes, the StyleRef field looks for the nearest Chapter Title style preceeding it - which is , of course, the chapter title you want to appear.
