Hello all,

For security reasons we are thinking of renaming the administrator account and create a new admin account with very limited rights. But some services require the admin account to run. so, if i rename the admin account, will all the services stop, or will they automaticly accept the new account?

thanx in advance

Most security in NT is based upon the SID (security ID) and not just the name of the account. When you create a new account (even if it has the same name) it will have a different SID and the services will not know about it.
I don't think that this will affect your services though . . . most services run as the system (which is a different account than the Admin). If you do have any services that are running as the Admin, just go into the services option in the control panel and cahnge the service startup option to use a different ID. - Jeff Marler B-)

Make sure you change the password individually in all services, which require a password.

hello all,

thanx for the replies, there where only a few services that required the administrator account so we'll reset them by hand.

thanx

Hi all,

I faced a recent problem when I created a new user account,
but cannot log in the 2nd time.

In the event viewer, there is error regarding the trust relationship between the SID.

Anyone has any solutions to this?

Thanx.

Regards,
libroos

I have a very similar problem. I am running Win2k and I am trying to set up a GUEST account with GUEST permissions. I am having a problem with my Verizon DSL running from the guest account. I have tried changing directory permissions, services... etc. Anyone have any general ideas as to what to check to get the DSL working?

Thanks,
Don
