Hello,

I have to rename thousands of images from their current names (123.jpg, 456.jpg, etc.) to the last 12 characters of a GUID (634FH3CS3456.jpg, etc.)

All of the GUID's are lined up in Excel with the .jpg extension, but now I need to link those names to the actual images replacing the existing names.

I have no idea how to go about this. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

look on hotfiles.com or download.com. You may find a utility there that can handle this task.

Well, I have checked out some utilities, and although some are quite nice, flash renamer in particular, they don't quite do what I am trying accomplish. I already have the GUID names in a list, and these utils will sequentially name files but not from a predefined list of random GUID's.

If you already have the names in Excel, then it should be easy. Make your columns like this:
column A: RENAME
column B: a single space
column C: Name 1
column D: a single space
column E: Name 2

In column F, concatenate A+B+C+D+E

Copy column F to a new worksheet, and save as MSDOS text name.bat (but do not call it rename.bat!)

Run name.bat to change the names
