Was finally able to get the VAL Manager to recognize my VAB on my G700, only to find out that the file name on several annc's is too many characters. Can I rename using VAL Manager to View/Rename Audio Files Properties without erasing the announcement?
Thanks for the response. Problem is, I need to rename the announcement file without erasing it. The installation vendor created a file name that is beyond 27 characters. The file is a professional recording (paid for by the business) and I do not have a copy of the original recording.
it looks like you can actually rename an announcement using valmanager, just ensure you backup the board first; this way you will have a *.wav file of the announcement for future use and ensure the name in CM is updated too
Should have told you that I cannot backup a file that has a file name of 27+ characters - not possible. So my dilemma is still this:

Thanks again. I will go with renaming it using VAL Manager. Regarding your advice to rename it in CM, are you saying that if you do this thru the web browser interface you will not erase the announcement, becuase if you do it thru SAT Terminal emulation or GEDI in ASA, annc is erased.
Using VAL Manager you can rename your announcement using the View/Rename Audio Files Properties Command but it WILL ERASE THE ORIGINAL Same thing if you change name using ASA to ch annc
PS Telecomturner simple answer to your post is: BUDGET
can you not get the file from the bash command linux prompt and copy back to your var/home/ftp/pub folder. Or can you not back up using dos commands like you would normally back a valboard.
I think if you enable filex and then create a file on your C drive then ftp to the board and run the mget.wav command you will pull the announcments off on to your local machine where you could rename them. Definitely worth a go.
