Hey, everyone: I have a home network with W2k server as DC and 3 desktops and one laptop - all w2k pro. The current domain name was setup based on a testing project around 2 years ago. Now I want to change the domain to a new name. I also have Exe 5.5 installed on same box.

My question is what is the best way to accompish it? I guess I can uninstall and reinstall, and put everything together again, but just wonder what is the better way. Can everyone shred some lights ?

With win2k server it will be necessary to run dcpromo to demote your server and then run dcpromo again to repromote your server in order to change the domain name. This issue will be resolved with .NET server

I tried dcpromo first, but it didn't let me. The error message I got was:

"The operation failed because:

Failed to determine if domain "text.com" is a leaf domain. The wizard cannot remove Active Directory from the domain controller because other child domains or tree domain are dependant on it"

- even I comfirmed that it is the last domain controller in the domain.

Any ideas ? It's not about whether you can do it or not, it's about HOW
