Here's an FYI, MS VM JAVA(virtual machine) is no longer supported. I've completely removed the MS/VM from my desktop IBM(WIN98) and my new XP Pro IBM laptop. I've done this because SUN JAVA works great in a multitude of JAVA operations. There's a lot of security holes in the MS VM and I've been using SUN JAVA for a few years. Granted even SUN JAVA has a few security exploits, but compared to MS, yikes! Why are you removing SUN's JAVA in favor of MS?
Stoxguy, thanks. Would this be listed under 'Currently Installed Programs' or under Windows Components?
As for the reason why, this has to be done on a client's pc as there is some conflict between the software that my company needs to install and what is currently running. I don't know the exact details.
. Microsoft plans support for its MVM through 2007. It is no longer distributed, but it is supported.
. Stoxguy has not one shred of evidence to support actual or comparative security risks from either MVM version. The most recent security flaws in java have been on Sun's implementation and not Microsofts.
. Add/remove programs will let your remove the Sun version. It is listed under Java runtime and not Sun.
. You can have both installed without issue. Use Internet Options, Advanced to set any preferences you may have.
The only disadvantage of the SUN version of Java when used in webpages through IE, is the long load-time of the engine, where the MVM loadtime is significantly faster, like a factor between 5 and 10.
