Removing Restore files from System Volume information

I saw recent someone said that after a virus attack you could/should delete all the restore files from system volume information folder, I have found several viri in these files , differnt ones with differnt scanners.
Is this a safe thing to do, The computer has no valid restore points sets.

Simply Disabling System Restore deletes all previous restore points.

Right Click My Computer and select Properties
Click on the System Restore Tab
Tick the "Turn Off System Restore on all drives" box.
Accept the message that appears.
Restart your machine.
Untick the box mentioned above.
