Hello-

I'm in the process of customizing our ACT layout. To do so, I need to remove some old fields that were used in the past, but which have not been used in quite some time. Of the 6000 contacts in my database, maybe 50 150 or 200 contacts have data in these fields. Is there anything I should be careful about before I go ahead and delete these fields? Will the data in the fields be deleted as well, or is it going to pop up at some inconvenient time somewhere else? Any tips would be appreciated!

If you are just deleting the fields from your layout, you will not affect the database at all.

Do you want the data removed completely from the database, or do you just want to rid your layout of it?

Thanks for the feedback Dollie. Just removing them from the layout would, I think, be accurate. These fields are never used and are therefore just taking up space that could be used for another purpose. So it sounds like there is no need to be concerned about removing the data that currently exists within these fields? Thanks again.

If you don't have an entry field on your layout, you won't need to worry about random appearances of data. The only way this could possibly affect you is if you are using the field in merged documents. In that case as well, it's as simple as removing the field.

Glad I could help!
