Hi all

Have a client who installed WinXP Pro on a second drive, Win 2K remaining on the first, the system offering a choice of O/S at bootup.

Client has now formatted and installed WinXP Pro on the first drive and formatted the second drive.

The system now offers a choice of XP or XP!

How to remove the loader?

TIA

you need to edit the boot.ini

start>run> type c:\boot.ini

right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery - Settings, and click Edit in the top box.

Your boot.ini file should look something like:
[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

You can also go Start > Run type msconfig > enter
This brings up the config utility
Under "boot.ini" tab there should be a button to either search for or validate operating systems. Basically it will remove the "ghost" os you have written to the MBR because of the dual xp install.
