Ok, I decided I want to do it a different way if possible. These music images are going to be for an instructional DVD.

What I'd like to do is actually create the background texture/pattern track in my video editing software and then just overlay the images of the chords on another track. But for this to happen, is it possible to save the image files as just the guitar chords without any background so that I can place them on top of whatever background track I want? Kind of hard to ask the question. Let me know if it makes sense or not.

You can save as .pspimage and keep the transparency and layers information.

Another option would be to save as .png -- use File - Export.

If you are not concerned with image quality, ie. its a relitivly small image, you can allways exsport as a transparent gif as well.

if the background is a solid color you can use the "save as trancparent gif" wizard (in the export menue) to automaticly remove the background and save the file
