i have just installed Mysql on the windows 2000 server and reading the manual i have just initialised a service the problem is it will not work and i cannot remove the service to try one of the other methods out is there any way you can remove a service?

I think you would need to remove the application to remove the service.

Why don't you just disable the service?

Anyone know how to remove a service?

I have a Testbed server, that I have tested upgrading a POS database application (which failed).
I have uninstalled the POS app, but the service remains, and cannot start. The problem is that I need to reinstall the old version of the POS app, which uses an older version of the service. (Service was upgraded during failed upgrade)

I need to make sure that if the upgrade fails on my production server, I can still go back to the old version of software.

thanks

There is 2 ways to do this, both tools are in the Resource Kit, by name or by service:

1)INSTSRV.EXE (Service Installer and Remover).

Installs and removes system services from NT

INSTSRV <service name> (<exe location> | REMOVE)
[-a <Account Name>] [-p <Account Password>]

Install service example:

INSTSRV MyService C:\MyDir\DiskService.Exe
-OR-
INSTSRV MyService C:\mailsrv\mailsrv.exe -a MYDOMAIN\joebob -p foo

Remove service example:

INSTSRV MyService REMOVE

2) DELSRV.EXE (by name)

DELSRV <Service Name>

Ex: DELSRV "Computer Browser"
