removing a primary site

I attempted to "restore" my site onto new hardware, and things have gone less than perfect. I've got nasty errors for core components and stuff that even google hasn't heard of. I'm begining to think my time would be better spent taking down the entire site, and starting a brand new one. has anyone ever done this before, and could give me any heads up on things I should watch out for? Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi, are you testing this in a lab environment?.

I would install SMS just as it was it on your old box.

Unregister the old server and give the new server the same name.

The SMS components, and SQL database should also be installed in the same locations as the old setup.

Use the same accounts for SQL, client and site config, etc...

When you have this in place, try restoring your site.

At this point using the SMS site repair may be out of the question, but you can give that a try if you feel comfortable using this feature.
