Hey, can someone tell how to get just the outlines of an image?? Look here, I do my own hand drawn comics, I want to scan them in to photoshop an remove the hand applied colors and recolor to give a new clean look. Is there a way to just grab the black outlines and shadows without the colors so to start fresh??? Thanks in advanced.

Convert the file to CMYK, go to the channels palette and select each channel except black and clear them. Using levels, curves or even brightness/contast you should be able to clear any remaining gray areas.

How does one actually clear the channel color to zero?

I can click the channels eyeball off untill I have only black remaining but the CMY colors still remain in the picture. Can the CMY colors be cleared to zero so I have only a black on white picture?

turn on only the channel for the color you want to clear;
select all, then delete;
they're gone!

That worked great...exactly what I wanted.

I had previously tried to delete each unwanted channel until only black remained (right click, delete channel) and found the results to be quite different (not what I wanted).

Can you help me understand the difference between deleting a channel and deleting the contents of a channel?
