In Crystal 8.5 this was straight forward, you either went into Set Location and removed it from the window there or you went in the SQL statement and removed it from the select statement.

In Version 10 it does not appear in the Set Location set up any more. And with my set up I can not seem to edit the SQL statement.

Any suggestions, this is required as we move reports from a single schema to a multischema database.

Alternatively, is there a setting in V10, that I have missed which will allow me to edit the SQL statement.

Version 9 onwards does not allow editing of the SQL using the Show SQL query method.

To use custom SQL to create a report, the report must be created using a command rather than linked tables.

In teh database Expert under the desired datasource click on Add Command. Thsi will accept any accepted SQL statement as long as the query results in a recordset.

However in your case this link should provide the solution to your problem

Thank you to both of you, this worked perfectly. I had searched the knowledge base, but as I did not use the phrase "fully qualified" nothing useful came back.

Hi all

I was about to order a copy of v10 to test this very problem. I understand that you can change the database name to be blank in v9 but this only seemed to work on the main report and any sub reports remain with the static database name and un editable. Is this still the same in v10.

Any suggestions on how to get around the sub reports problem will be much appreciated. I have to keep going back to v8.5 to get any work done.

Cheers

I have just managed to edit and save changes to the qualified Tables Name of a sub report with no problem.
I'm using CR9.2.3.970

Was the subreport embedded in the main report or linked????

Sorry to carry this on but has driven me up the wall for a while now

The origianl one I tried was created externally of the main report and then embedded.

I have just tried the same with a subrepoprt created in the main report using the wizard and I am still able to change the qualified table name.

I have all the latest hotfixes applied, so it may be worth you making sure you have the same.

I get an error when removing the initial catolog....

some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the data source. Please specify the table required for any unmodified tables.

Why would this be???

I'm trying to remove the initial catalog. I'm developing reports for our product. It is essentially a sql dbase with a vb front end. My problem is the database name changes from customer to customer so I can't leave the data base name in.

The main report is fine press F2 and I can remove the initial catalog. The sub report gives me the following error

"some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the data source. Please specify the table required for any unmodified tables."

What would be the reason for this error.

Cheers

At what stage do you get the error ? Is this when you amend the qualified table name or when you run the report through your application ?

when I take out the initial catalog name and press enter

None of the post amke mention of the Initial Catalog setting of the datasource and editing this value.

As I have said in my posts if you add the table name as the Overridden Qualified Table Name: for each rtable in your main report and sub report this will remove the database identifier from the generated SQL.

Thsi will then allow you switch between different datasources.

plarson: You're probably better off starting a new post, as this is very old.

Yuo might also include technical information, such as the version of Crystal, and the type of database.

I actually did already submit a new post, earlier today, with a similar title. If you can help, please do so. Thanks.
