Hi,

Im running Samba on a red hat 9 install. My problem is I dont want to see the 'Printers and Faxes' share on my linux box from my windows XP box ? Is this even possible ? I have commented out all the references to printers in my smb.conf file, except for :

show add printer wizard = no

then when I restart samba its gone... until i do a refresh and it comes back...

Is there any way to get rid of this perminatly ?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Nick

try adding (to global section):
load printers = no

Still no good :(

now all I have in my smb.conf is :

[global]
log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
load printers = no
show add printers wizard = no
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
encrypt passwords = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
dns proxy = no
netbios name = TestDIS
netbios aliases = Test Alias
server string = Test DIS
path = /root
workgroup = D1
os level = 20
comment = testing
security = user
max log size = 0
pam password change = yes

[WINDVD4OEM2CH_Share]
browseable = yes
comment = CD Name WINDVD4OEM2CH
path = /mnt/isosrv/WINDVD4OEM2CH
available = yes
[Share]
browseable = yes
comment = freddy
path = /mnt/images/freddy
available = yes

Am I missig something here ???

thanks again 4 any help..

Nick

after a long trawl through the docs ...

disable spoolss = yes

might do what you want ... maybe :)

Thanks,
thats gotten rid of the printers & faxes comming back... now I have another issue :( when I restart samba (either via webmin or killing from a shell) it makes all the other computers in the workgroup dissapear for a minute or two! I dont think this is normal.. well atleast I hope not.

Thnks again

Nick

that is probably because it's rebuilding it's domain map ...

if you have 'prefered master' and 'domain master' and all the others turned on, then when it starts up it has to grab control for the network back from another computer, which is why the map disappears.

if you can live with it, then i'd suggest 'don't worry, be happy'

if you can't live with it (and you can't live with your machine on constantly, or without killing the processes) then turn off the domain master stuff, and/or lower the OS level so that it is below any windows NT/2000 boxes you have.
