This guy is telling me that he removed access to the favorites tab in IE under XP as a stand alone, even though the system is hooked into a 2k2 sever Lan, using an mmc command.
My answer to him was that mmc is a management coommand console that exists under server programs. That what he did was created a gpo in the mmc turning off IE favorites and then rebooted his machine.
He says that is not what he did. He says he did it in XP
My question is how?

after doing some thinking and burning the rubber between my ears I finally came up with the answer. And no you do not need to go into the registry.
What I had neglected was that XP is built upon 2K which is built upon NT... Therefore you can pull up a mmc(start >run>mmc)in the window go to add snapins> add> local computer policy>user config>administrator definitions>window componets>Internet Explorer. Find Disable Favorites > enable>ok and reboot once you ok out to the console and voila there you have it on a stand alone!!![noevil]

bcastner,

thanks for the link I finally made it over there (sorry it was after I solved the issuse).
But I think that site offers insight to other issuses yet to be defined.[dazed]
Again thanks for the link I will use it in good health

xchefpeter is correct. This can be accomplished, and more quickly using the gpedit.msc command in the RUN box.
