Remove Drivers from dead ATI Radeon manually?

I recently was forced to remove my ATI Radeon from my Windows 2000 Server after it overheated. The card is no longer recognized by the OS. I replaced the card with an old RIVA TNT, and it works great.

My problem is that I am now unable to remove the old ATI drivers. The ATI installer won't remove them because it can't locate the card (its dead). I tried RegClean, and removing the services manually (they aren't listed in the Services MMC).

I keep getting errors in the Event Viewer stating that it can't start the following services upon reboot:

ATI WDM Specialized MVD Codec service
ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar service
ATI WDM TV Tuner service

How do I remove these services/drivers manually?

%Systemroot%\System32\atid2vag.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\ati2evxx.exe
%Systemroot%\System32\ati2mdxx.exe
%Systemroot%\System32\ati3d1ag.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\ati3d2ag.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\ati3duag.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\ATIDCC.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\atiiexx.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\atioglxx.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\atipdlxx.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\atitvo32.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\ativcoxx.dll
%Systemroot%\System32\DRIVERS\ati2mtag.sys
%Systemroot%\System32\Oemdspif.dll

Those are the card drivers.

But you should be able to remove the devices and drivers by opening your control panel and clicking on System. Then open the device manager and find the three devices listed in the drop down list and if you right-click on each and select uninstall that should remove them. Only remove them if you are sure they are not in use because otherwise Windows may respond with a STOP error. Generally the device will show up with a little yellow exclaimation point if its not being used properly.

Unfortunally, because the device is no longer attached to my system, it does not show up in the Devices list. The only reference I have seen to these drivers is in Add/Remove Programs control panel (removed by RegClean), and the Event Logs.

I was able halt the error by deleting each service manually from the registry. I am assuming I will be able to remove each driver from %SYSTEMROOT%/SYSTEM32/ now, without problems.

Let me know if you have a problem getting rid of everything, I might be able to create an uninstaller for it. John D. Saucier

I require help as well to a similar situation. I have removed an ATI Radeon 7500 DDR from my winXP machine as it was not what I thought I was buying. Now when I try to remove the driver under Control Panel-Add/Remove software I get an error message denying me. The message reads something like " Cannot remove old ATI drivers" Aslo when I boot up I get a "Fatal Error has Occured". Everything seem to continue loading as usual. I just would like to remove the ATI driver and be done with it.

John....are you still interested in creating an Uninstaler?
