Hi,Everybody:

I have a D-Link DP-301p+ print Server, i can use telnet and psadmin(software to configue tcpip settings)to connect it and print test file.
Then i went to SCO Openserver 5.07, did the following.
1. edit /etc/hosts adding 10.128.86.199 printer8 printer8.xxx.com
the perm of /etc/hosts is: -rw-r--r-- bin bin
2. use scoadmin-->printers-->printer manager to add a remote printer, and both "local print service enabled" and "Remote Unix Print server enabled" are checked.
the perm of /etc/printcap is as follows
-rw-r--r-- root daemon
the line for lp8 on /etc/printcap shows:
lp8:\:lp=:rm=printer8:rp=lp8:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/lp8:mx#0:

I sent several file to printer8, but it won't print.

then i run lpstat -o lp8
it returns:
xxx.com:waiting for queue to be enabled on printer8

then i run 'enable lp8" it says "UX:enable:WARNING:Destination "lp8" was already enable"

then i run 'accept lp8', it says "UX:accept:
WARNING:Destination 'lp8' was already accept requests"

I did a search for same question, but none of them solve the problem, can someone give me some hint?

When you telnet the DP-301p+ can you enable the LPR/LPD protocol ?
What is the name of the queue, really lp8 ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

When you telnet the DP-301p+ i only can setup the lpq/lpstat reply to "full information", but the manual for DP-301p+ says it works on sco unix, and i follow the instruction from product manual to install it on SCO.

When i run lpstat -o lp8:
xxx.com:waiting for queue to be enabled on printer8
Req-Id Owner size Date
lp8-0 root 4880 Oct 11 09:38
lp8-1 root 13 Oct 11 10:03

My guess is that you have to replace rp=lp8 with rp=port name in your /etc/printcap.

Hope This Helps, PH.

We have six other kp-301p+ print server, i can access then by psadmin, lp8 use similar setting, lp8 was created when adding remote printer using scoadmin, i can call it lp8, or whatever, as long as you print like this "lp -s -dlp8".

But what is the port name in the DP-301p+ ?

This is a printcap entry from a D-Link that I've got running on an SCO system:

Code:
p0:\
        :lp=:rm=dlink:rp=PS-10489C-P2:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/p0:mx#0:

I agree with PHV, in that your problem is likely due to an unknown Queue name on the D-Link.

i configue the port name of lp8 to printer8, it should be lp8.
Thanks to PHV
